The 2026 French Open main draw began today, with Serbian star Novak Djokovic taking center stage on the first day as he begins his quest for a record-breaking 25th career Grand Slam title. The 39-year-old Djokovic is currently tied with Australian tennis legend Margaret Court for the record of 24 Grand Slam titles. If he can lift the French Open trophy for the fourth time, he will hold the all-time record outright. Djokovic's last Grand Slam victory was at the 2023 US Open, and since then, every Grand Slam final has been won by either Italian star Jannik Sinner or Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz. With two-time French Open champion Alcaraz sidelined due to injury, Djokovic knows this may be his best chance to secure his 25th title. He will face local French player Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard on Court Philippe Chatrier tonight, aiming for a spot in the second round. According to AFP, Djokovic has been troubled by shoulder issues recently. Speaking about his preparation on the 22nd, he told reporters, 'I have spent a lot of time on the court, working hard to improve my technique and physical condition, ensuring I am ready to handle five-set matches both physically and competitively.' Djokovic stated that Grand Slams have always been his primary goal, especially in recent years, adding, 'I can't wait to get on the court and start playing.'
