DPP Party Official Election: Chen Shui-bian Casts First Vote in Tainan

Central News Agency, Tainan, May 24. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) held its party official election today. Former President Chen Shui-bian, who recently moved his party registration back to Tainan, went to the De-Guang Village Activity Center in the East District this morning to cast his vote. He remarked that this was his first time participating in a party official election in his hometown since moving his registration, and he noted that the turnout among party members was enthusiastic. When Chen appeared at the activity center, he drew attention from many citizens, some of whom asked for handshakes and photos. Chen responded with a smile and joined the queue to complete his vote. Responding to media questions, Chen said, 'In the past, my party registration was in Taipei, which was far from where I lived, so I couldn't participate in the voting. This year, I moved my registration back to Tainan, and I am very happy to participate in the election in my hometown for the first time.' Kuo Kuo-wen, head of the DPP's Tainan City Chapter, said that the weather was good and he estimated the turnout could exceed the previous 65%, potentially breaking 70%.
