Wu Pei-yi Becomes First Female Chair of DPP Taipei City Chapter

DPP Legislator Wu Pei-yi has assumed the role of chair of the party's Taipei City Chapter, becoming the first woman to hold the position. She hopes to leverage her flexible and inclusive nature to enhance the party's effectiveness and bring it closer to the public. Her primary goal upon taking office is to assist mayoral and city council candidates in winning the year-end elections. Having served two terms as a Taipei City Councilor, Wu announced her candidacy for the DPP Taipei City Chapter chair and was elected unopposed. Historically, the list of chairs for the DPP Taipei City Chapter has been exclusively male. Local observers note that the role requires strategic planning, grassroots engagement, and the ability to unite party members through strong communication and flexibility. Wu has proposed four visions: deepening party affairs at the grassroots level, strengthening responsiveness to public opinion, rejuvenating the capital's party chapter to open social dialogue, and establishing a policy platform to incorporate municipal visions. In an interview with CNA, Wu remarked that "running for a neighborhood warden election can be harder than running for president," highlighting the need for patience, flexibility, and empathy in grassroots politics. She believes her gender is an asset for communication and coordination. Her immediate tasks include supporting mayoral candidate Shen Po-yang and maintaining communication with citizens. Reflecting on her time at Tsai Ing-wen's 2016 campaign headquarters, she noted that she learned to navigate social frameworks with patience and inclusivity. Wu plans to establish a video team to respond to current events and create a municipal platform to provide expert advice to councilors. She intends to recruit talent across party factions to strengthen the chapter.
