Taiwan Railways to spend NT$84 million on new uniforms, distribution to start by year-end

Central News Agency, Taipei, May 24. Taiwan Railways is spending NT$84 million to issue new uniforms. The style and color will largely remain the same as before, but the fabric for winter and summer trousers will include elastic fibers, and the hats have been redesigned to look better on the wearer. Distribution is expected to begin by the end of this year. The uniforms for Taiwan Railways' frontline operations staff are about to be updated. Taiwan Railways told the media today that operations uniforms are updated every four years. The current procurement project for 2026-2029 operations uniforms is underway, with a budget of approximately NT$84 million. Taiwan Railways pointed out that this procurement project began discussions with station and crew personnel in May 2025, and also consulted external experts and scholars. Relevant requirements were listed as conditions for selecting manufacturers, and a public tender was conducted using the most advantageous bid method. The uniforms are mainly for frontline station staff and train crew members who serve passengers. Regarding the style and color of the uniforms, Taiwan Railways stated that they will largely maintain the previous style. The main changes include the addition of elastic fibers to the fabric of men's and women's winter and summer trousers, women's uniform hats, and cold-weather jackets. The cold-weather jacket has been changed to a two-piece design, with a detachable vest inside. Taiwan Railways stated that they hope to optimize the design from both functional and tailoring aspects to balance practicality and aesthetics. Currently, the manufacturer is conducting fitting operations, temporarily using fitting versions of the hats and cold-weather jackets to confirm sizes. Distribution is expected to begin by the end of this year.
