The Taichung Fruit and Vegetable Market held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the 24th for the completion of the second phase of its cold chain distribution center. In the future, agricultural products will be maintained in an optimal low-temperature environment from intake and grading to packaging and shipping, effectively extending freshness, reducing waste, and stabilizing supply and prices. The company celebrated its 30th anniversary, and the Taichung City Government announced the completion of the second phase. Deputy Secretary-General Chang Ta-chun attended the ceremony, along with Legislators Yang Chiung-ying and Huang Chien-hao. The Taichung Agriculture Bureau stated that the market handles 160,000 to 180,000 tons of produce annually, making it a first-class wholesale market. Over the past 30 years, it has undergone continuous upgrades, including the installation of mass spectrometers, digitalization of auction systems, parking management, and traffic flow optimization. To fully upgrade the market's hardware, the central and city governments, along with the company, invested over NT$310 million since 2020. The second phase cost NT$165 million, with NT$82.5 million from the central government, NT$46 million from the city, and NT$36.5 million from the company. This includes a 160-ping low-temperature processing area and a 427-ping low-temperature cutting and packaging facility, along with a new pesticide residue testing center. The Agriculture Bureau expects this to complete the "full cold chain logistics" system, ensuring safe and healthy produce for citizens.
