Tourist Drowns While Viewing 'Blue Tears' in Matsu

After on-site rescue, he briefly regained a faint pulse. He was transported to the Lienchiang County Hospital in Nangan with the assistance of the Coast Guard, but he was already in cardiac arrest upon arrival and passed away despite emergency treatment. The 10th (Matsu) Coast Guard Team of the Coast Guard Administration stated in a press release today that they received a report from the Lienchiang County Fire Bureau and the Dongju Health Center around 10:00 PM yesterday regarding a drowning tourist. When firefighters rescued him, he was in cardiac arrest, but after resuscitation, he regained a faint pulse. The doctor at the Dongju Health Center assessed that he needed immediate transfer to the Lienchiang County Hospital. The Matsu Coast Guard stated that because there were no inter-island ferries late at night and the vital signs did not meet the criteria for helicopter evacuation, they immediately dispatched a patrol boat to transport the tourist and his companions to Nangan's Fu-Ao Port, where he was transferred to an ambulance. The Lienchiang County Hospital confirmed this evening that the tourist was in cardiac arrest upon arrival and passed away early this morning despite emergency efforts. Witnesses told the Central News Agency that the tourist had gone to the coast of Dongju Island with a local B&B operator to view the Blue Tears, but due to low tide and slippery rocks, he accidentally fell into the sea. The Coast Guard stated that Matsu has attracted many tourists in recent years due to the Blue Tears, and if tourists encounter emergencies at night, the Coast Guard will immediately dispatch boats to assist after medical assessment.
