TPP faces wave of resignations; Ko Wen-je says 'I wouldn't do any better'

Regarding the recent wave of resignations from the Taiwan People's Party (TPP), party founder Ko Wen-je stated on the 23rd that while he saw the apology issued by Chairman Huang Kuo-chang, he believes that even if he were in charge, he would not do any better. He emphasized that establishing institutional systems is necessary, and while turmoil is inevitable during this process, the party must adhere to its rules at this stage. Chairman Huang Kuo-chang posted on Facebook yesterday, expressing his apologies for the recent internal turmoil and promising to reflect and improve. Ko Wen-je commented on the post, urging him to stay strong for the sake of the party and Taiwan society. Speaking to the media at an event in Taipei on the 23rd, Ko pointed out that the TPP is an emerging party transitioning from a personality-driven entity to an institutionalized one, making some friction unavoidable. He noted that some members demand direct nominations without polls and leave the party if denied, or even join other parties to criticize the TPP. He argued that such disputes occur in other parties' primaries as well, but the TPP's issues are exaggerated by the media. Regarding the Control Yuan's decision to confiscate over NT$55.79 million and fine him NT$2.54 million for violating the Political Donations Act, Ko stated that the judiciary is the nation's last line of defense and must be trusted by the people. He criticized the Control Yuan and the Prosecutors Office for colluding, warning that the judiciary must not become a political tool. Additionally, Ko was pelted with eggs at the event, an act the TPP spokesperson strongly condemned.
