She continued, 'I want to know who this character is. Beyond beauty and appearance, what are her qualities? That is the fun of performing such classic texts, which have been studied, interpreted, and recreated countless times.' The 43-year-old actress reminded audiences that Homer's epic 'Odyssey' is a myth, not a historical record. Nyong'o stated, 'I strongly support Chris's creative vision and the version of the story he wants to tell,' adding that 'the cast reflects the diversity of the world.' She also noted, 'I won't waste time defending myself. Whether I respond or not, the criticism will exist.' Elon Musk attacked Nolan on X, claiming he had 'lost his principles,' and earlier this month agreed with a conservative commentator who claimed the director would be labeled a racist if he didn't cast a white woman. Musk also alleged that Nolan cast the role to fit 'DEI' (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) standards to win awards. Conversely, actor Alec Baldwin responded to Musk on Instagram, saying, 'Dear Elon... but she is indeed the most beautiful woman in the world.' Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel told Musk to 'mind his own business.' Nolan firmly supported his choice, telling ELLE, 'For the role of Helen, strength and composure are essential, and Lupita embodies these qualities effortlessly.'
