DPP Criticizes KMT: 'Condemn China's Threats, Don't Act as Beijing's Mouthpiece'

The DPP stated today that KMT's Cheng Li-wun's criticism of President Lai Ching-te's second-anniversary speech, using terms like 'relying on the US for independence' and 'rejecting peace through force,' is highly similar to the CCP's rhetoric. The DPP expressed regret over this. DPP spokesperson Li Kun-cheng stated that President Lai's speech clearly expressed a stance on protecting democracy and maintaining peace in the Taiwan Strait. However, Cheng, instead of speaking for Taiwan's interests, adopted the CCP's narrative to attack the head of state. Li emphasized that the true destroyer of the status quo in the Taiwan Strait is China, which suppresses Taiwan's international participation and uses military intimidation. By ignoring China's oppression and labeling Taiwan's self-defense efforts as 'provocations,' the KMT is echoing Beijing's rhetoric. The DPP stressed that Taiwanese people want safety and dignity, not a KMT that echoes the CCP and undermines Taiwan's will to defend itself.
