Central News Agency, London, May 22. Taiwanese author Yang Shuang-zi and translator Goldie Gold won the 2026 International Booker Prize for their novel 'Taiwan Travelogue'. During their first public appearance following the win, they were asked by jury chair Natasha Brown which dish from the book they would recommend, to which they both replied 'Lu Rou Fan' (braised pork rice). Yang joked that after the news broke in Taiwan, fans had already tracked down her favorite shop in Taichung, and she is now worried about being able to eat there in peace. Goldie shared how Taiwanese people enjoy experimenting with cilantro in various foods, such as cilantro chips and drinks. The 2026 International Booker Prize was announced on the evening of the 19th, marking the first time a Taiwanese work has won. On the 21st, they held a sold-out event at the Waterstones flagship store in London. The pair also discussed the complexities of colonial history and language, with Yang warning about the implications of using terms like 'mainland' in a colonial context.
