Geopolitical Situation After US-China Summit: National Security Bureau Says US-China Competition Remains Unchanged

Regarding the situation after the US-China summit, the National Security Bureau stated that the competitive landscape between the US and China remains unchanged. Before and after the summit, the US conducted military exercises such as "Balikatan" and "Shield" with allies, demonstrating its determination for collective defense. The Legislative Yuan's Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee has invited Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung and National Security Bureau Director-General Tsai Ming-yen on the 25th to report on the impact of the geopolitical changes after the summit on Taiwan's diplomacy and national security. According to the National Security Bureau's report, while both sides attempted to manage disputes during the summit, China urged the US to handle the Taiwan issue cautiously, while the White House made no specific commitments. Geopolitically, economic and trade outcomes fell short of expectations, and the chip regulation issue remains unresolved. Furthermore, the US has strengthened multilateral exercises with the Philippines, Japan, Australia, and others, demonstrating its defense capabilities in the Indo-Pacific region. The National Security Bureau pointed out that China is attempting to guide public opinion in Taiwan by spreading "US-skepticism" and "abandonment theories," and criticizing President Lai Ching-te's cross-strait policies. The government plans to closely monitor China's cognitive warfare activities and prevent the spread of misinformation.
