TPBL Announces Most Improved Player Award Nominees: Tseng Po-Yu, Ting Sheng-Ju, and Chuang Po-Yuan in Contention

The Taiwan Professional Basketball League (TPBL) today announced the nominees for its Most Improved Player award, featuring Tseng Po-Yu of the Hsinchu Lioneers, Ting Sheng-Ju of the Taipei Taishin Mars, and Chuang Po-Yuan of the Taoyuan Taiwan Beer Leopards. The winner will receive a "Jordan edition Kubbrick Bear." The Most Improved Player award aims to recognize players who have shown significant growth in a single season. The TPBL revealed the 2025-26 season nominees today, with the award being decided by a media vote. Evaluation criteria include playing time, statistical improvement, on-court impact, and role changes. Ultimately, the Lioneers' key backcourt rotation player Tseng Po-Yu, the Mars' main point guard Ting Sheng-Ju, and the Leopards' promising young talent Chuang Po-Yuan emerged as the finalists. Among them, Tseng Po-Yu, who previously won the P.LEAGUE+ Most Improved Player and Sixth Man of the Year awards, has had another career-defining season. Facing the challenge of a role transition, his playing time doubled, and his playmaking and game-management skills evolved significantly. Averaging 9.9 points and 6 assists, he transformed from a fringe rotation player into a steady floor general, making him a frontrunner for the award. Mars' point guard Ting Sheng-Ju has upgraded across the board in scoring, playmaking, and outside shooting stability. This season, he averaged 12.9 points, 7.7 assists, and 3.3 rebounds, along with a 36.8% three-point shooting percentage, gradually transitioning from a role-playing guard to the team's offensive core. After shaking off his rookie season's rawness, Leopards guard Chuang Po-Yuan successfully moved from the end of the bench into the stable rotation while developing a threatening outside shot, making him another strong candidate for the award. Notably, the title sponsor has prepared a special prize, the "Jordan edition Kubbrick Bear," echoing NBA legend Michael Jordan's famous quote, "I can accept failure, everyone fails at something.
