Zhuangwei Sand Dune Art Festival to Kick Off in July, Featuring Huang Fei and A-lân

(CNA, Taipei, May 20, by reporter Yu Hsiao-han) This year's 2026 Zhuangwei Sand Dune Art Festival, themed "Floating Islands, Drifting Sands," will invite three domestic and international artists to create works. It will also feature classic performances by Pili Puppetry and renowned singers Huang Fei, A-lân, Hsi Ching, and Huang Feng-yi, transcending ethnic and cultural boundaries.

The Tourism Administration held a press conference today to announce that the eighth "2026 Zhuangwei Sand Dune Art Festival" will be held this year with the theme "Floating Islands, Drifting Sands." For the artworks, three groups of domestic and international artists have been invited this year: local Yilan artist Lin Szu-ying, Japanese artist Maiko Sugano, and the Bu-Fei Cross-Village Lab (Lin Chun-tso, Yang Fang-yi), known for regenerative creation and interdisciplinary collaboration, to enhance the landscape of Zhuangwei. The works will be completed on July 18.

The Tourism Administration stated that the festival's concerts will feature four themed performances. From July 18 to 19, "Sand Waves Like Songs" and "Drifting on the Sea of Sand" will guide the audience into a soundscape where night dunes meet the coast. From August 15-16, "Starry River on the Sandy Shore" and "Floating Dreams of a Sand Island" will use Guishan Island, the icon of the Zhuangwei coast, as a landmark.

Regarding the lineup, the Tourism Administration said that in addition to Golden Melody Award-winning singer Sangpuy, Usay Kawlu, Yuanwei Yunniang, and local Yilan band TUNG-KEN, the festival will also align with local traditional culture by inviting Pili Puppetry and renowned singers Huang Fei, A-lân, Hsi Ching, and Huang Feng-yi to deliver classic performances that cross ethnic and cultural lines.

The Tourism Administration added that for the art and culture hubs, this year's festival will be joined by Niutousi Farming Buffalo School, True Food Sensation Rice Food Workshop, Lubian Kebab x Wei Canteen, Zang Tian Handmade Workshop, Kinyu.Tshù-pinn, and the Yilan Kavalan Development Association. During the concert period, limited paid DIY workshops suitable for souvenirs and parent-child participation will be held in the afternoon at the Zhuangwei Sand Dune Visitor Center, including food, candle making, and learning about the local Yilan Kavalan culture and cultural experiences.
