(CNA, Changhua, May 20, by reporter Cheng Wei-chen) Changhua County's Beidou Township today launched its MOOVO public bike-sharing service. The first phase includes eight stations, catering to the needs of students, commuters, daily shoppers, and tourists. Visitors can also ride bikes to explore the town and taste local specialty foods like cabbage rice, Ba-wan (Taiwanese meatball), and coriander coffee. The Changhua County Government held a press conference today for the launch, attended by Changhua County Magistrate Wang Huei-mei, Council Speaker Hsieh Tien-lin, and Beidou Township Mayor Yen Hung-lin. The initial eight stations are located at Wanlai Elementary School, Hongzhuan Market, Beidou Home Economics & Commercial Vocational High School, Beidou Junior High School, Xindong Plaza, Beidou Police Precinct, Luocing Elementary School, and Luoyang Elementary School. Wang Huei-mei stated that Beidou, with its deep historical roots as part of the saying 'first Tainan, second Lukang, third Mengjia, fourth Baodou,' is significantly the 17th township in Changhua County to launch the MOOVO service. This provides a more convenient and environmentally friendly transportation option and demonstrates the county government's continued determination to promote low-carbon transport. Wang mentioned that MOOVO has already established 190 stations with 2,730 bicycles in Changhua. Considering that some older MOOVO 1.0 vehicles have been in use for many years, more new MOOVO 3.0 vehicles will be introduced in batches this year to accelerate the replacement process and improve convenience and service quality. Yen Hung-lin pointed out that the 80 bicycles provided at the eight new stations in Beidou will not only benefit local residents and commuting students but also allow tourists to easily roam Beidou and experience its cultural atmosphere. The Changhua County Transportation Department stated that the public can make good use of the TPASS commuter pass, which allows for the first 30 minutes of use to be free for both regular and electric-assist bicycles. In the future, the county will continue to promote the expansion and optimization of the public bicycle network, connecting schools, business districts, government agencies, transportation hubs, and tourist attractions to create a more low-carbon and sustainable transportation environment.
