(CNA, Taipei, May 19, by reporter Chen Chieh-lin) As the World Health Assembly (WHA) convenes, a Taiwanese youth delegation has organized the "Global Health Diplomacy Forum" as a side event. It is one of the very few youth-led professional forums globally, facilitating exchanges with officials from numerous countries on smart medicine and youth empowerment, ensuring Taiwan's voice is heard by the international community.
The "2026 World Health Assembly Taiwan Youth Delegation," jointly formed by the Taiwanese Medical and Health Youth Alliance, the Taiwan Public Health Students' Association, and the Pharmaceutical Students' Association of the Republic of China, hosted the "2026 Global Health Diplomacy Forum" in Geneva on May 18, Swiss time. The event is a side activity of the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA79).
In a press release today, the WHA Taiwan Youth Delegation stated that the forum, now in its fourth year, centered on the theme of "Smart Medicine and Youth Empowerment." It focused on the ethical, sustainability, and governance challenges facing global medical and public health systems amid rapid digital technology development, and explored the role of youth in future governance. The event attracted representatives and officials from many countries, with nearly 100 people attending.
The WHA Taiwan Youth Delegation said that through diverse interactive formats such as keynote speeches, intergenerational roundtables, and youth workshops, it fostered in-depth exchange and learning among participants from different backgrounds. It encouraged young people to actively participate in global health through policy advocacy and cross-disciplinary cooperation, fully demonstrating the professional capabilities and international perspective of Taiwanese youth in promoting global health diplomacy.
Furthermore, the delegation mentioned that the "Youth Action Workshop" was a highlight of the event. Through case studies, group discussions, and co-creation of action plans, participating youth put forward concrete proposals on digital health ethics, health equity, and transnational cooperation. The workshop also served as a basis for extending into youth international participation projects, truly allowing the voices of youth to be heard internationally.
The WHA Taiwan Youth Delegation stated that the event successfully demonstrated the participation and influence of Taiwanese youth in international health. In addition to organizing this forum, the delegation will continue to attend over 40 meetings on the sidelines of this year's WHA to deepen cooperation and exchange with international partners, using the passion and courage of youth to show the world Taiwan's medical and health strength.
