Jianan Satoyama Market to Promote Eco-Friendly Practices at Chiayi Botanical Garden on the 23rd

(CNA, Chiayi County, May 19) The Chiayi Forest District Office of the Ministry of Agriculture's Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency is promoting eco-friendly practices by holding the "2026 Jianan Satoyama Market" on the 23rd at the Chiayi Botanical Garden, listed as one of the "Eight Views of Zhuluo." The event will share the results of implementing the "Satoyama" belief with the public through environmentally friendly agricultural products and creative handmade goods. The Chiayi office stated in a press release today that Satoyama refers to a lifestyle of harmonious coexistence between people and nature. Following the popularity of the Satoyama market held in 2024 (113th year of the Republic of China), after a two-year hiatus, it has invited eco-friendly farmers, communities, and conservation partners from the Jianan area to bring stories of biodiversity, sustainable agricultural products, and ecological conservation to the market. The Chiayi office said it has planned nearly 50 stalls under the themes of "Eco-Friendly Products," "Artisan Crafts," "Creative Catering," and "Conservation Promotion." The public can interact face-to-face with producers to buy sustainable agricultural products, directly taste the local flavors of Satoyama cuisine, appreciate cultural and creative crafts made from natural materials, and learn about the ecology, national green network, and biodiversity of the Jianan region through interactive games. To encourage public consumption in support of eco-friendly farmers, the Chiayi office stated that the market will feature a "spend-and-draw" activity. For every NT$100 spent, customers can collect one point. Collecting five points grants one entry into a prize draw, with a chance to win a popular Mikado Pheasant plush toy valued at NT$888. Additionally, the Chiayi office has invited the "Chashan Community Development Association - Kayamavana Bunun Drum Troupe," where young people who returned to their Alishan tribal village will inject indigenous vitality into the market by combining traditional Tsou songs with percussion. In the afternoon, a musical feast will be presented by singer Wang Pin-yu, the grand prize winner of the 2025 Taiwan Original Pop Music Awards.
