(CNA, Taipei, May 19, by reporter Hsu Chih-wei) To align with the implementation of the National Language Competition, the Ministry of Education is holding a call for submissions for the 2026 "National Language Competition - Taiwanese Hokkien Reading Articles." Submissions are accepted from now until June 30. The theme should be lively, interesting, and close to real life. Selected articles will be awarded a fee of NT$1,200. The Ministry of Education released a press statement today pointing out that language is the root of culture. To implement the spirit of the "National Language Development Act" and enhance the atmosphere of learning and applying Taiwanese Hokkien, the Ministry of Education invites all sectors to engage in creation. By writing life stories and depicting the features of the era in Taiwanese Hokkien, the goal is to enrich the reading competition materials and encourage the public to use and write their mother tongue in daily life, demonstrating linguistic vitality and cultural confidence. For the Taiwanese Hokkien reading article submissions, contributors are asked to first self-evaluate whether the article is suitable for student or adult reading and indicate this on the first line of the article and in the file name. Articles should be between 700 and 750 characters (including punctuation). To facilitate National Language Competition participants in looking up dictionaries and listening to word pronunciations, the characters used should be based on the Ministry of Education's "Dictionary of Frequently-Used Taiwanese Hokkien," with the possibility of using the "Taiwanese Hokkien Romanization System" in some cases. Details can be found in the submission guidelines. The submission event is organized by the Ministry of Education and undertaken by National Taichung University of Education. The guidelines can be viewed on the website (https://sites.google.com/mail.ntcu.edu.tw/koksailongthok). After notification, authors of selected works must provide a copyright licensing agreement and a confidentiality pledge, and will receive a fee of NT$1,200 per article from the organizer.
