Teng Yu-hsien Memorial Concert to Be Held in Hsinchu County on May 30, Reviving Taiwanese Ballads

(CNA, Hsinchu County, 18th, Reporter Kuo Hsuan-wen) The Hsinchu County Cultural Affairs Bureau announced today that the Teng Yu-hsien Memorial Concert will be held on the 30th at the plaza in front of the Hsinchu County Government. The event's theme is 'Spring Breeze Symphony Enters the Moonlit Night,' and it will incorporate musical elements of Teng Yu-hsien to lead the public in reliving Taiwanese ballads.

The Hsinchu County Government held a press conference to promote the event, where County Magistrate Yang Wen-ke played the violin to symbolize the opening of the event. Yang said his favorite work by Teng Yu-hsien is 'Bāng Chhun-hong' (Longing for the Spring Breeze), which showcases the beauty of classic Taiwanese music and is deeply representative of its era, remaining widely beloved by the public today.

Cultural Affairs Bureau Director Chu Shu-min told CNA that the concert will feature singers Hsiao Huang-chi, Julia Peng, Hsu Fu-kai, Huang Tzu-hsuan & Shanping-kuaì, as well as the bands Neci Ken, Jinchuan Dailedui, the National Youth Symphony Orchestra, and a collaborative performance with Teng Yu-hsien's great-grandson Chao I-chiao, Chan Chu-yueh, and the Hsing-Lung Elementary School Choir.

She stated that the concert will also interpret the 'The Four Seasons of Longing' ballad series, including classic pieces composed by Teng Yu-hsien such as 'Sì-kùi-hông' (Four Seasons of Red), 'Goe̍h-iā-chhiû' (Moonlit Night Sorrow), 'Bāng Chhun-hong,' and 'Ú-iā-hoe' (Flower in the Rainy Night), hoping to lead the audience to feel the beauty of classic Taiwanese music through the performance.

Music producer Blaire Ko said that the concert is presented in a crossover arrangement, combining a youth chamber orchestra with contemporary pop bands. Through the interweaving of different musical styles, it creates a three-dimensional and richly layered live sound. As many of the pieces are lyrical, the arrangement design particularly focuses on the texture and melodic lines between the parts, inviting the public to come and listen.
