Taipei Police Officer to Be Disciplined for Drunken Altercation in Ximending

(Central News Agency reporter Huang Li-yun, Taipei, 18th) Three Thai women were drinking and chatting in Taipei's Ximending last night when they got into an argument with two drunk Taiwanese men. Two Polish men who were nearby tried to mediate but were pulled in the process. Police were dispatched to handle the situation and found that one of the Taiwanese men was a police officer, who is now slated to receive a demerit.

The Wanhua Precinct of the Taipei City Police Department stated in a press release today that at around 11 p.m. last night, they received a report via the 110 hotline about a drunken dispute in front of a restaurant in their jurisdiction, and immediately dispatched officers from the Ximending Police Station to the scene.

Upon investigation, it was found that two Taiwanese men were arguing with three Thai women over a minor issue. Two Polish men passing by stepped in to mediate, but as the Polish men were leaving, they were grabbed by the arm by the two Taiwanese men, who also threw punches but did not injure anyone. The police then brought all relevant parties back to the station for verification.

The police investigation revealed that one of the involved Taiwanese men was an off-duty officer from the Wanhua Precinct, surnamed Wang. Although the foreign nationals involved did not press criminal charges, the police department, based on supporting evidence, will still penalize the two Taiwanese men for violating the Social Order Maintenance Act.

At the same time, the Wanhua Precinct will strictly pursue the administrative responsibilities of the personnel involved, planning to issue one demerit to Officer Wang and report it to the city police department for approval, in order to rectify police discipline. (Editor: Hsiao Po-wen) 1150518
