Samsung Strike Threat: South Korean Government Vows to Intervene to Prevent ₩1 Trillion Daily Loss

South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok stated today that the government will explore all options, including emergency arbitration, to prevent a labor strike at Samsung Electronics. A single-day shutdown of Samsung's semiconductor plant is estimated to cause direct losses of up to 1 trillion won (approximately NT$21 billion). Kim expressed greater concern that a temporary production halt could render the line inoperable for months, with potential economic losses escalating to as much as 100 trillion won. Samsung, the world's largest memory chip maker, which accounts for nearly a quarter of South Korea's total exports, and its union are set to resume wage negotiations tomorrow with government mediation.
