During the Yu Her Pau litchi harvest season in Kaohsiung's Dashu District, police have implemented a 'Protect Litchi Project.' Yesterday, officers arrested a suspect surnamed Huang in a litchi orchard beside an industrial road in Dashu District, seizing nearly 30kg of Yu Her Pau litchis with a market value of about NT$7,000. He was charged with theft. Officers from the Renwu Precinct of the Kaohsiung City Police Department explained today that officers from the Jiuqu Police Station were executing the 'Protect Litchi Project' around 6 p.m. yesterday. While patrolling an industrial road in Dashu's Jingjiao area, they noticed a truck parked next to a litchi orchard. Upon entering the orchard to inspect, they found a 65-year-old man, surnamed Huang, carrying two large bags of Yu Her Pau litchis and preparing to leave. Police stated that they seized a total of approximately 27.5kg of Yu Her Pau litchis, with an estimated market value of about NT$7,000. Huang was arrested on the spot for theft and transferred to the Qiaotou District Prosecutors Office for investigation. Police noted that Yu Her Pau litchis are a high-value agricultural crop. To prevent criminals from stealing them at night during the harvest season, a 'Protect Litchi Project' was launched in mid-May, establishing patrol networks focusing on mountainous orchards and industrial roads, and increasing the frequency of night patrols and checks on suspicious persons and vehicles. They also reminded farmers to install surveillance cameras, alarm systems, motion-sensor lighting, and keep guard dogs to enhance their security.
