(Central News Agency, Oslo, 17th, Comprehensive Foreign Report) Norway's Police Security Service (PST) announced today that a Chinese man has been arrested in the north of the country on suspicion of espionage. This comes just weeks after a Chinese woman was arrested on suspicion of stealing satellite data.

AFP reports that PST media spokesman Eirik Veum told AFP the suspect was arrested on the 15th by police in Nordland, in the north.

Veum stated that the man is suspected of an "attempt to conduct illegal intelligence activities" in the Nordland region but declined to specify the nature of these activities.

A Norwegian court today ordered the suspect to be held in custody for four weeks.

The man's defense lawyer, Tor Haug, told the Norwegian News Agency (NTB) that his client denies any wrongdoing.

On the 7th, PST had announced the arrest of a Chinese woman suspected of espionage involving Norwegian satellite data.

PST prosecutor Thomas Blom told AFP at the time that the woman was arrested "based on the suspicion that a Chinese state actor, under the cover of a company registered in Norway, was attempting to build receivers to download data collected by Norway's polar-orbiting satellites."

PST also indicated that other individuals are suspected of involvement in this case.

Norwegian intelligence agencies frequently list China and Russia as the main sources of espionage risk to Norway. According to the latest threat assessment report, both countries have shown interest in acquiring land near critical infrastructure or military facilities. (Compiled by: Ho Hung-Ju) 1150518
