(Central News Agency, Taichung, 16th - Reporter Hao Hsueh-ching) At a street corner in Dajia District, Taichung City, recyclables have been piled up by a resident. The public has reported that rats and cockroaches are running around the site, raising concerns about the spread of hantavirus. The Taichung City Environmental Protection Bureau stated today that it conducts patrols twice a week, and if any recyclables are found during patrols, staff will be dispatched to clear them.

A netizen posted on an online platform that at the intersection of Wufu Street and Kongque Road in Dajia District, a resident has been piling up recyclables on the roadside for a long time, turning the road into a garbage collection point. A light breeze sends trash flying all over the street, and most terrifyingly, the number of rats and cockroaches is too high to count, calling it "too exaggerated."

The Taichung City Environmental Protection Bureau stated that after dispatching personnel for an on-site inspection, the mess was found to be caused by people's habit of placing recyclables in front of an individual recycler's door. The location has been listed as a key patrol area by the bureau, with inspections at least twice a week. If recyclables are found on the ground causing an untidy environment during patrols, personnel will be immediately dispatched to clear them.

Regarding the occasional occupation of roads for recycling sorting operations, the Environmental Protection Bureau pointed out that this year, the bureau has conducted several joint cleanups and warnings with the police. They will continue to strengthen patrols and environmental maintenance to preserve the city's appearance and public health. (Editor: Hsieh Ya-chu) 1150516
