An 80-year-old woman named Zheng, riding a scooter in Daliao District, Kaohsiung, tragically died this afternoon after colliding with a large truck. Police investigations suggest she may have been attempting to avoid a car illegally parked on the roadside, leading to a collision with the truck moving in the same direction. The truck driver, 33-year-old Yeh, was found not to have been under the influence of alcohol. Both Yeh and the 62-year-old driver of the illegally parked car, Zhang, have been referred to the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office for investigation on suspicion of negligent homicide. The authorities are currently clarifying the exact cause of the accident and reminded the public to maintain safety distances, practice defensive driving when near large vehicles, and avoid driving on their blind spots.
