(Central News Agency, Taichung, 16th, Reporter Hao Hsueh-ching) The Democratic Progressive Party's 'Good Life in Taiwan' policy briefing was held in Taichung City today. Vice Premier Cheng Li-chun stated at the meeting that the Legislative Yuan deleted NT$470 billion from the special defense budget, cutting key funding for drone development, and the Executive Yuan will seek to restore the relevant budget.

The Taichung session of the DPP's 'Good Life in Taiwan' 2026 county and city policy briefing was held this afternoon, with DPP's Taichung mayoral candidate Ho Hsin-chun, Cheng Li-chun, and Minister of the Interior Liu Shih-fang taking turns to report to the citizens of Taichung on the central government's support and care, and to present a blueprint and vision for the city's future development.

Ho Hsin-chun stated that Taichung has many precision manufacturing and drone-related industries, but the NT$470 billion cut from the special defense budget passed by the Legislative Yuan has cost Taichung trillions in business opportunities and cut off a lifeline for the transformation of traditional industries. She will fight for strong government support for Taichung's drone industry in the future.

Ho Hsin-chun further mentioned that in the future, it's not just about taking care of Taichung's industrial development; transportation, childcare, education, and elderly care must also be well-managed to give the citizens of Taichung 'Six-Hsin' (Prosperous) governance, with central and local cooperation to build a 'prosperous greater Taichung.'

Liu Shih-fang said that to solve housing problems and implement housing justice, the government is proceeding on three tracks: building social housing, managing rental properties, and providing rent subsidies. In Taichung City, 15,000 households have been matched for rental management, with a total subsidy of NT$1.25 billion; 187,000 households have received rent subsidies, with a cumulative payment of NT$2.9 billion; and 15,000 social housing units have been built, with a cumulative allocation of NT$1.32 billion. In terms of transportation, from 2014 to 2026, the Ministry of Transportation provided 16 subsidies to Taichung for both road and rail construction, totaling NT$141.8 billion.

Cheng Li-chun stated that the recent NT$470 billion cut from the special defense budget by the Legislative Yuan eliminated the most critical unmanned vehicles and counter-systems. She chairs the unmanned vehicle project meeting in the Executive Yuan, which sets three major goals for commercial and civilian drones: industrial development, national defense autonomy, and democratic supply chains. The legislature's cut eliminated this three-in-one objective.

Cheng Li-chun emphasized that the drone industry is part of the national defense autonomy and the next important strategic industry. The Legislative Yuan's cut undermines asymmetric warfare capabilities, the next strategic industry, and the opportunity for Taiwanese people to develop their national defense autonomy. It also impacts the development of Taichung's drone industry, which is like 'disarming oneself.' Premier Cho Jung-tai has instructed that the Executive Yuan will redouble its efforts to continue fighting for the crucial drone budget and for the development of the drone industry.
