Car Ramming in Modena, Italy, Injures 8; Driver Arrested

A car rammed into pedestrians in the city center of Modena, northern Italy, today, injuring 8 people, 4 of them seriously. Police stated that the driver, a man in his 30s, has been arrested. Modena Mayor Massimo Mezzetti told RaiNews24 that four of the injured are in serious condition. Mezzetti noted that the driver is an Italian national, born in Bergamo, of North African descent, and currently residing in the Modena area. 'It appears at the moment that the driver intentionally drove the vehicle onto the sidewalk, hitting several pedestrians before crashing into a shop window. He then got out of the car, brandishing a knife,' Mezzetti said. 'A man who tried to stop the driver was slightly injured.' A witness told RaiNews24 that the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but this has not been confirmed by authorities. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni posted on social media platform X, stating: 'I express my concern and solidarity with all the injured and their families.'
