Xi Talks Taiwan, US Trade Rep Says Tone Was Not as Harsh as Reported

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer stated that Chinese President Xi Jinping's tone regarding the Taiwan issue during his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump was likely not as harsh as portrayed by Chinese state media. While Xinhua News Agency reported a severe warning from Xi, Greer downplayed it, noting that the Taiwan issue shouldn't impact the proposed Board of Trade mechanism for managing bilateral commerce. Greer also mentioned optimistic expectations for China to purchase tens of billions of U.S. agricultural products annually for the next three years.
