Tokyo Measles Cases Hit 10-Year High, Emergency Vaccinations Initiated

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced emergency free measles vaccinations starting May 18 for individuals who have been in contact with confirmed patients within the past 72 hours. Measles cases in Tokyo have surged to a 10-year high of 239 infections this year, while nationwide cases have reached 462, which is over 4.3 times the number from the same period last year. Vaccinations will be administered at 8 designated medical institutions to rapidly prevent further transmission and severe symptoms.
