(Central News Agency, Reporter Lai Yu-chen, Taipei, 15th) Heavy afternoon rain in the Guangfu area of Hualien resulted in flooding in Neighborhood 12 of Dongfu Village and Fozu Street due to inadequate drainage of the Madana Creek. The National Land Management Agency (NLMA) of the Ministry of the Interior stated today that it continues to monitor the operation of the drainage system in Guangfu Township, Hualien County, and will subsequently request the Hualien County Government to continue dredging, emergency repair, and maintenance of relevant drainage channels to strengthen flood prevention readiness.

Due to the vigorous development of convective cloud systems today, localized flooding occurred in some areas of Guangfu Township, Hualien. The NLMA stated in an evening press release that it has maintained contact with the Hualien County Government, continues to monitor the operation of the drainage system in Guangfu Township, and will conduct on-site inspections together with county government personnel.

Regarding this rainfall, the NLMA pointed out that the overall stormwater sewer drainage system operated normally and did not cause urban flooding. In the severely affected agricultural areas, although localized flooding occurred, the water gradually receded after the rain slowed down, with the most obvious improvement in Lane 272, Fozu Street, which had already completed dredging. Tomorrow, they will conduct a joint inspection with the Hualien County Government to strengthen dredging and water diversion operations in the severely affected agricultural areas.

The NLMA added that it has allocated funds under the 'Hualien Mataian Creek Barrier Lake Post-Disaster Reconstruction Special Budget - Water Conservancy Facilities' to subsidize the Hualien County Government in handling the dredging, emergency repair, and maintenance of stormwater sewers and other drainage systems, and to assist in the subsequent construction of the stormwater and sewage sewer systems to enhance overall drainage efficiency and flood resilience.

The NLMA pointed out that it will also request the Hualien County Government to continue relevant dredging, emergency repair, and maintenance operations to strengthen the drainage capacity of the system and flood prevention readiness, and continue to supervise local authorities to strengthen inspection and maintenance work to safeguard people's lives and property.
