A 78-year-old man in Changhua was saved from a life-threatening 7.6cm thoracic aortic aneurysm after being admitted for a fever. Dr. Lai Chin-hu of Yuan Rung Hospital identified the 'ticking time bomb' and performed an emergency minimally invasive aortic stent procedure. The surgery, which involved a small 1cm incision in the groin, successfully isolated the aneurysm from blood flow. Doctors warn that aneurysms over 7cm carry a 30% risk of rupture and advise high-risk patients to undergo regular check-ups.
