CNA, Kyiv, 14th (Comprehensive Foreign Report) — Ukrainian officials stated today that Russia has launched its largest aerial attack on Ukraine in the past two days since the war began, bombarding the capital Kyiv and other cities with hundreds of drones.

Reuters reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that since yesterday, Russia has launched 1,567 drones. Officials indicated that at least 15 civilians have been killed in the past two days.

He stated that Moscow launched over 670 attack drones and 56 missiles overnight. The Air Force said that air defense units shot down 41 of the missiles and 652 of the drones.

Zelenskyy said, "This is absolutely not the action of those who think the war is about to end."

He emphasized, "It is crucial that our partners do not remain silent on this attack, and it is equally important to continue supporting the protection of our airspace."

An Agence France-Presse correspondent in Kyiv heard air raid sirens wail across the city, followed by hours of deafening explosions and flashes in the sky, causing Kyiv residents to rush to subway stations for shelter.

Still in his pajamas with blood on his shirt, Kyiv resident Andriy told AFP near a collapsed Soviet-era residential building, "Everything is burning. People are screaming... people are yelling."

At least nine people were killed in Kyiv, including a 12-year-old girl. Officials stated that an attack on western Ukraine yesterday killed six people.

Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The war has killed hundreds of thousands and destroyed large parts of Ukraine. Despite U.S.-backed peace efforts, the war continues, though Moscow's battlefield advances have stalled this year.

Moscow did not immediately comment on today's attack.

Zelenskyy stated that Kyiv was the main target of the overnight airstrikes, adding that 20 locations in Kyiv and the Kyiv region were damaged. Officials said about 40 people were injured, including two children.

Dozens of emergency responders are at the site of a 9-story residential building struck by a Russian drone, cutting through concrete where an entire section of the building was destroyed.

Zelenskyy said that nearly 20 people are still missing as rescuers clear the debris. (Translation: Li Pei-shan) 1150515
