Joshua Wong's Case of Conspiracy to Collude with Foreign Forces Completes Committal to High Court

According to a report by Ming Pao, the case completed the committal procedures to the High Court at the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts today.

According to the report, Wong is accused of conspiring with former Hong Kong Demosistō chairman Nathan Law and others between July 1, 2020, and November 23, 2020, to request foreign or external institutions, organizations, or personnel to impose sanctions, blockades, or take other hostile actions against Hong Kong or the People's Republic of China.

Under Hong Kong's judicial procedures, when a person is charged with a more serious offense, the prosecution has the right to request the case be transferred to the District Court or committed to the High Court for trial. The transfer to the District Court is called a 'transfer procedure,' and the committal to the High Court is called a 'committal procedure.'

Wong was charged with conspiracy to commit subversion for his participation in the pro-democracy camp's '35+' primary election for the Legislative Council. He was sentenced by a Hong Kong court on November 19, 2024, to 4 years and 8 months in prison and is still serving his sentence.
