The amendment also expands the authorized scope of management for specific energy products announced by the central government, such as hydrogen fuel for vehicles, to improve the legal framework for energy products and business operations.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs stated that considering the current low fines are not a sufficient deterrent, after a comprehensive review of the penalties in the act, the upper limit of some fines has been raised, new types of violations have been added, and the competent authority is authorized to publish the names of violators and the reasons for the violation depending on the severity.
The Ministry explained that this amendment aims to make energy management more transparent and efficient through the public disclosure of energy sales statistics by energy suppliers, strengthening corporate electricity responsibility regulations, providing local governments with tools for implementing energy-saving inspections, and increasing penalties for violations.
