Central News Agency Holds 'AI Meets ESG' Forum; President Hu Wan-ling: 'Finding Solutions for Taiwan's Enterprises'

(Central News Agency, Taichung, 14th) - The Central News Agency held the Taichung session of its "When AI Meets ESG Series Forum" today. In her opening remarks, CNA President Hu Wan-ling expressed her hope that through the deep insights of experts and scholars and the practical sharing from industry leaders, precise solutions for the digital and green transformation of Taiwanese enterprises can be found.

The forum focused on artificial intelligence (AI) driving corporate sustainable development, bringing together representatives from industry and academia to analyze the trend of technology empowering ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), hoping to inject new momentum for green transformation into Taiwan's industry.

Speaking at the forum, Hu Wan-ling said that in the face of the global wave of AI, how to "coexist and prosper" with AI has become a mandatory course for modern enterprises. At the same time, implementing ESG is a key path to align with the international trend of net-zero carbon emissions.

She stated that the Central News Agency specially planned this series of forums to build a communication platform for industry, academia, and research. Through the deep insights of experts and scholars and the practical sharing of industry benchmarks, it aims to find precise solutions for the digital and green transformation of Taiwanese enterprises.

The forum was held today at the National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung. The first half brought together representatives from industry and academia, kicked off by Liu Che-Liang, Director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Studies at the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research, who set the tone on the key role of AI technology in driving environmental sustainability.

Huang Jeng-Tsung, Chairman of the Taiwan Environmental Justice and Energy Transition Association, and Sung Chao-Tsung, Dean of Research and Development and Director of the Preparatory Office for the College of Aviation at National Formosa University, shared insights on environmental justice in the net-zero pathway and topics such as AI-powered unmanned vehicles for green infrastructure and inspection for carbon reduction. Starting from energy transition policies and environmental justice, the discussion extended to the ESG implementation practices of leading technology companies, deeply analyzing how to use technological solutions to accelerate the move towards net-zero carbon emissions.

The second half, a "Practical Dialogue," explored industry-specific applications. Moderated by Liu Che-Liang, it featured Hsieh Tsung-Lin, General Manager of Taiwan Steel Union; Lu Tung-Hsuan, convener of the Inorganic Resource Recycling Industry Alliance and General Manager of Li-Shun-Hsing Resource Technology Co.; and Chen Tsung-Jen, General Manager of Mincheng International Industrial Co., Ltd., who discussed the practical process of promoting a circular economy and innovative sustainability.

In the cross-disciplinary dialogue, corporate representatives shared frontline practical experiences from various perspectives, including carbon reduction in heavy industry, resource recovery from inorganic waste, green upgrading of traditional manufacturing, and innovative environmental business models. Through the analysis of real cases, they explored how companies can turn ESG challenges into innovative business opportunities when facing supply chain carbon reduction pressures.

The organizers stated that facing the challenges of global climate change and international supply chain requirements, adopting AI technology and implementing ESG is no longer an option for businesses but a necessary rule for survival and competition. It is hoped that the Taichung forum, through the stimulating cross-sector dialogue between industry, academia, and research, will help enterprises in the central region to seize the key opportunities of this "digital and green dual-axis transformation" and work together to build a sustainable future with international competitiveness.
