Body of Chinese Culture University Student Who Drowned While Rescuing Elder Found; School Expresses Deep Grief and Respect

(Central News Agency reporter Chen Chih-chung, Taipei, 14th) The body of a Chinese Culture University student, who went missing on May 12 after jumping into the Tamsui River near Dadaocheng Wharf in Taipei to rescue a drowning 90-year-old man, was found today. Chinese Culture University expressed deep grief and reluctance, admiring the student's selfless spirit of helping others.

The Taipei City Fire Department found the student's body 30 meters upstream from the wharf's temporary bridge, and the family has confirmed the identity. The Taiwan Shilin District Prosecutors Office will be requested to direct the investigation to clarify the cause of death.

Chinese Culture University responded to the media, stating that the entire faculty and student body felt profound grief and reluctance after receiving the unfortunate news of the student's disappearance during the rescue attempt and the subsequent continuous search efforts by police and fire personnel.

The university extended its deepest condolences and sorrow to the family and expressed "utmost admiration" for the student's selfless spirit of helping others in a critical moment.
