(Central News Agency reporter Cao Ya-yan, New Taipei, 13th) In Xindian District, New Taipei City, this afternoon, a dump truck driver exited his vehicle for engineering work. The vehicle, suspected of having a failed handbrake, slid and collided with a community bus and three other vehicles, then crashed into a mountain wall and overturned, causing 8 people to sustain minor injuries and be sent to the hospital.

New Taipei police and firefighters received a report around 3 PM about a collision between a dump truck and a community bus at the intersection of Yongye Road and Huatan Street in Xindian District, resulting in 8 minor injuries. The injured were transported to Xindian Tzu Chi Hospital and Cardinal Tien Hospital for treatment, and all are out of danger. Traffic at the scene was temporarily congested, and police were immediately dispatched to control the area.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the 62-year-old dump truck driver, Mr. Li, had exited the vehicle at the scene to perform water pipe engineering work. The dump truck is suspected to have slid on its own due to a failed handbrake, affecting three other vehicles including a community bus, before colliding with a mountain wall and overturning. The blood alcohol levels of the dump truck driver and the drivers of the three affected vehicles were all 0. The detailed cause of the accident is still under investigation.
