(Central News Agency Reporter Huang Qiaowen, Taipei 13th) A magnitude 5.0 earthquake occurred in Hualien at 6:43 PM today, with a maximum intensity of 4 in Hualien County. Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) stated that trains are slowing down in the sections from Xincheng to Fenglin (including Hualien Port Line) and from Horen to Xincheng.
According to the latest information from the Central Weather Administration of the Ministry of Transportation, a magnitude 5.0 earthquake occurred at 6:43 PM, with a depth of 15.8 kilometers. The epicenter was located 3.6 kilometers north of the Hualien County Government (in Hualien City, Hualien County), and the maximum seismic intensity in Hualien County was 4.
TRA issued a statement saying that due to the magnitude 4 earthquake at Hualien Station, the section between Xincheng and Fenglin (including Hualien Port Line) is being handled according to magnitude 4 earthquake regulations; Chongde Station experienced a magnitude 3 earthquake, and the section between Horen and Xincheng is being handled according to magnitude 3 earthquake regulations.
According to TRA regulations, for areas with seismic intensity 4, the first train after the earthquake will proceed at a slow speed of 30 km/h, and subsequent trains will proceed at 60 km/h to the next station. Engineering and electrical units will dispatch personnel to inspect the railway lines. Normal speed will resume once safety is confirmed.
If the seismic intensity is 3, the first train after the earthquake will proceed at a slow speed of 60 km/h to the next station and inspect the lines. If there are no abnormalities, subsequent trains will resume normal speed. (Edited by Wu Surou) 1150513
