(Central News Agency reporter Wu Shu-yu, Taipei, 13th) The International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF), in collaboration with its diplomatic ally Eswatini's government, the European Union, and multiple development partners, recently officially launched the "Goat Industry Enhancement Project." This project aims to assist in improving rural livelihoods and strengthening food security in Eswatini by enhancing goat production efficiency, optimizing the industrial value chain, and promoting the commercialization of the livestock industry.

The ICDF today issued a press release stating that the Goat Industry Enhancement Project was launched on the 8th. Eswatini Minister of Agriculture Mandla Tshawuka, EU Political Counsellor Jose Bacerra Marta, Ambassador Liang Hung-sheng to Eswatini, and ICDF Technical Mission Leader Xue Xuan-ping in Eswatini attended the launching ceremony.

Ambassador Liang Hung-sheng stated in his speech that he hopes the project will build on the successful experiences of past aquaculture, pig farming, and fruit tree projects, further driving rural development and economic empowerment.

Marta announced that the EU will cooperate with Taiwan to support Eswatini in establishing a goat artificial insemination center through equipment procurement, enhancing breeding capabilities and industrial competitiveness.

Mandla Tshawuka thanked Taiwan, the EU, and various development partners for their long-term support for Eswatini's agricultural development. He said that the Eswatini government will fully promote the project, and that past cooperation between Taiwan and Eswatini on pig farming had successfully helped Eswatini achieve pork self-sufficiency. The launch of the Goat Industry Enhancement Project will be an important opportunity to promote the transformation and commercialization of the goat industry.

Jian Zhi-hao, Project Manager of the ICDF Technical Mission in Eswatini, stated that Eswatini currently has approximately 525,000 goats, most of which are still raised by traditional communal grazing methods. The project will promote artificial insemination technology, feed crop production, vaccination, and commercial farming models to gradually enhance the industry's resilience and sustainable development capabilities. It will also comprehensively improve industrial efficiency and farmer incomes through measures such as improved breeding, animal health management, farmer training, nutritional support, and market linkages.

ICDF Deputy Secretary-General Hsieh Pei-fen stated that the project is a key strategic cooperation item between Taiwan and Eswatini. The project period is from 2026 to 2030, with core objectives including establishing a "National Goat Breeding Center," introducing improved breeds of goats, strengthening modern livestock management systems, and setting up satellite breeding farms across Eswatini, expecting to inject new momentum into Eswatini's livestock industry transformation.
