Tainan Baihe Xiejin Bridge Reconstruction Resolves Traffic Bottleneck and Enhances Flood Resilience

The Xiejin Bridge in Baihe District, Tainan City, which connects Hushan Village to the outside, has been reconstructed, resolving a traffic bottleneck caused by its narrow width. The project also significantly increased the flood discharge cross-section, enhancing the region's flood prevention capacity. The total cost was NT$12.768 million, with construction commencing on October 15, 2025.

(Central News Agency reporter Yang Ssu-jui, Tainan, 13th) The "Xiejin Bridge," which connects Hushan Village in Baihe District, Tainan City, to external routes and spans the Xiancaopu Stream, originally had a narrow deck width compared to the connecting roads. The city government invested funds in its reconstruction, which is now completed and open to traffic. Besides improving the existing traffic bottleneck, the flood discharge cross-section has been significantly increased, strengthening the local flood prevention resilience.

Tainan City Deputy Mayor Chiang Lin-huang today inspected the project results and stated in his speech that the Xiejin Bridge, a major traffic artery for Hushan Village residents in Baihe District, originally had a width of only 6 meters, while the connecting roads were 10 meters wide. This created a "main road shrinking into a narrow bridge" bottleneck, which had long affected traffic safety. After multiple suggestions from the local community, the city government invested funds in its reconstruction, widening the bridge deck to 10 meters, addressing the residents' long-standing expectations.

The Tainan City Public Works Bureau provided data indicating that the total cost for the Xiejin Bridge reconstruction project was NT$12,768,000. Construction began on October 15, 2025. In addition to road widening, the project incorporated regional drainage governance standards, precisely adjusting the bridge elevation to meet the flood discharge needs of the Xiancaopu Stream. The flood discharge cross-section increased from 13.44 square meters to 32.1 square meters, representing a 139% increase in flood flow, ensuring compliance with flood control governance regulations.

The Public Works Bureau noted that the project scope included widening the bridge deck, optimizing space for vehicle encounters and pedestrian safety, and constructing gabion piles and permeable geotextile methods upstream and downstream. These measures effectively reduce the impact of water erosion on slopes, enhancing overall durability and protective functions. The reconstruction project not only improved hardware infrastructure but also promoted rational land use and enhanced the quality of life for local residents. The city government will continue to inventory and optimize various infrastructure facilities throughout the city. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150513
