(Central News Agency, Tokyo, 13th, comprehensively reported by foreign wires) Japanese cosmetics company Shiseido announced yesterday that it will close the factory of its subsidiary, Taiwan Shiseido Co., Ltd., located in Hukou Township, Hsinchu County. The specific timeline is to cease production at the Hsinchu factory in the first quarter of 2027, followed by the factory closure in the second half of the same year.

According to NNA, a report providing economic news to Japanese companies in Asia under the Nikkei Group, Shiseido issued a statement announcing this news yesterday.

Shiseido pointed out that the purpose of closing the Hsinchu plant is to optimize its production and logistics system. After the Hsinchu plant ceases operations, its production will be relocated to the Nasu plant in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, and other locations.

This decision is aimed at "improving the operating rate of global factories and enhancing cost efficiency."

The Hsinchu plant has approximately 170 employees, and some employees will be laid off thereafter. Regarding the employees to be laid off, Shiseido stated that it will comply with local laws while providing special severance pay and re-employment support.

The report states that Shiseido's Hsinchu plant primarily produces skincare and other products for Taiwan and the surrounding Asia-Pacific region. After the Hsinchu plant closes, excluding factories in Japan, its production bases in Asia will only be two locations: Shanghai and Beijing in China.

Shiseido stated that the company has actively invested in state-of-the-art production bases in Japan in recent years, successfully improving production efficiency. In Taiwan, it will focus resources on its distribution business to create a more agile operating system. (Compiler: Yang Wei-ching) 1150513
