Miaoli County Haikou Elementary School and Zhunan Junior High School students both received commendations in the 2026 National Cat Cup SCRATCH Competition. County Magistrate Chung Tung-chin presented awards today, encouraging students to maintain their passion for technology and exploration in the digital age, and to continuously strengthen their soft skills.

The Miaoli County Government Education Department pointed out that the National Cat Cup SCRATCH Competition is an annual event for information education. The core of the competition is to promote the modular programming language SCRATCH, developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), allowing students to focus on logical planning, animation creation, and game design by "dragging and dropping blocks" instead of tedious code. This year, many teams participated, with 42 teams in the elementary school animation group, 41 teams in the elementary school game group, and 86 teams in the junior high school life application group.

Haikou Elementary School in Miaoli County won a commendation in the elementary school animation group for its lively and interesting animation work titled "Eye Protection Assistant." Zhunan Junior High School, with its theme "Amusement Park Train," demonstrated keen observation and problem-solving abilities, flexibly applying programming logic to solve real-life problems, and also won the judges' favor for a commendation in the junior high school life application group.

County Magistrate Chung Tung-chin today honored the award-winning teachers and students at the county government, presenting each with an education incentive of NT$2,000 sponsored by enterprises.

Chung Tung-chin stated that in the digital age, it is not easy for children to be familiar with software operations and also incorporate creative ideas to produce excellent works. The award-winning works from both schools are interesting and lively. He expects students to maintain their passion and spirit of exploration for information and technology, continuously strengthen their soft skills, and apply their creativity in various fields of life.

Chung Tung-chin mentioned that the promotion of education requires everyone's joint effort. Miaoli County will implement free nutritious lunches starting in September, thanking the 18 townships and cities in the county for cooperating with the county government, each bearing half of the expenses. Recently, Lin Guang-qing, chairman of the Xiehe Charity Foundation, voluntarily donated NT$10 million to the county government's education fund, which will be used for the construction of the Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Miaoli campus. He thanked enterprises for their strong support for education, and the county government team will strive to do a better job in education and cultivate more outstanding talents in Miaoli.
