(Central News Agency reporter Chen Chih-chung, Taipei, May 13) To encourage female students to pursue careers in science, the Ministry of Education has in recent years collaborated with National Taiwan Normal University. Through online videos, physical activities, and lectures, they aim to encourage female students to explore STEM fields and create a more gender-friendly learning environment.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education, the proportion of female students in various educational stages within Taiwan's technology fields ranges from about 30% to 40%, with more women tending to enter humanities and social sciences. The Ministry of Education is promoting the "Enhancing Primary and Junior High School Female Students' Interest in Science and Mathematics Learning: Integrated Offline and Online Activities Promotion" project, allowing students to experience diverse STEM learning.

STEM encompasses the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This project has completed the filming of 31 videos, developed 20 teaching plans, 12 interview articles, and 41 Facebook posts, covering historical and contemporary female scientists. The content showcases how they overcame challenges and broke traditional boundaries, demonstrating that women can shine in STEM fields, whether in academia or the workplace.

For example, the latest article published on the "Numeracy Lab" Facebook page introduces Mary Anning, a pioneer in British paleontology. At the age of 12, she unearthed the world's first complete ichthyosaur fossil, and at 24, she discovered the first highly complete plesiosaur skeleton. Later, she even opened a fossil warehouse, interacting with many collectors and scientists, inspiring many to explore the field of paleontology.

Through diverse and innovative learning methods, the Ministry of Education hopes to guide female students to explore STEM fields, cultivate their ability to think proactively, dare to try, and solve problems, laying a solid foundation for them to become influential key talents and leaders in the future.
