(Central News Agency reporter Kuan Jui-ping, Miaoli County, 13th) Miaoli County Government will partner with four major taxi fleets starting in June to expand the use of the Elderly and Caring Card to taxi services. The subsidized areas will cover four counties and cities, including Hsinchu, Miaoli, and Taichung, with a monthly subsidy of 200 points. From July, it will also be expanded to consumption at farmers' associations, creating a win-win situation.

Miaoli County Government's Social Affairs Department held a press conference today for the 'Expansion of Miaoli County's Elderly and Caring Card to Taxis.' County Magistrate Chung Tung-chin and representatives from various taxi fleets completed the signing and certification ceremony, and together with EasyCard Corporation, iPASS Corporation, and several county councilors, announced the launch of this social welfare policy.

The Social Affairs Department pointed out that as of the end of April this year, Miaoli County's elderly population reached 108,794, accounting for 20.51% of the total population; currently, about 80,000 Elderly and Caring Cards are held. The current mechanism provides a monthly subsidy of 700 points (1 point is equivalent to NT$1), which can be used for transportation services such as Taiwan Railways, Miaoli Bus, Hsinchu Bus, Fengyuan Bus, Juye Transportation, Jinpai Bus, Taiwan Zhenhao Car Rental Co., Ltd., and Yijie Keji Integration Co., Ltd.; from May, routes operated by Jiecun Bus Co., Ltd. will be added.

The Social Affairs Department stated that from June 1, the Elderly and Caring Card will be expanded to taxis, in cooperation with four major fleets including Taiwan Taxi, Jinchang First Wireless Taxi, Fengcheng Taxi, and Wuquan Transportation. The subsidized areas are Miaoli County, Hsinchu County, Hsinchu City, and Taichung City, with a monthly subsidy of 200 points and a maximum subsidy of 100 points per single trip.

The Social Affairs Department reminded cardholders to first call a taxi by phone or app, specifying payment with the Elderly and Caring Card; cooperating taxis will display a Miaoli mascot 'Maoli Meow' identification sticker on the rear window for easy public identification.

Chung Tung-chin stated that transportation resources are limited in some areas, and he hopes that by applying the Elderly and Caring Card to taxi services, the transportation needs of remote areas and areas with insufficient public transportation can be met, making it more convenient for the elderly and disabled to go shopping, seek medical treatment, visit relatives and friends, or participate in community activities. In addition, it is expected that in July, the subsidy will be further expanded to consumption at various farmers' associations within the county, increasing farmers' income and serving as an incentive to encourage the elderly to go out more and promote social participation.

The Social Affairs Department pointed out that the annual budget for the Elderly and Caring Card subsidy was originally NT$63 million, and due to the expansion of applicable services, the budget for the second half of the year will increase by more than NT$45.67 million.
