Iranian Renowned Human Rights Lawyer Sotoudeh Released on Bail, Had Been Arrested Multiple Times by Authorities

(Central News Agency, Paris, May 13th, comprehensive foreign report) The daughter of Nasrin Sotoudeh, a renowned Iranian human rights lawyer, stated that Sotoudeh, who was arrested again last month by Iranian authorities, has been granted bail today.

According to AFP, Sotoudeh was arrested at her home on April 1st. Activists say this is part of the authorities' intensified crackdown on civil society during Iran's conflict with Israel and the United States.

Sotoudeh's daughter wrote on Instagram: "Mom was temporarily released on bail a few hours ago."

Sotoudeh has received numerous accolades, including the European Parliament's Sakharov Prize in 2012 and the "Livelihood Award" in 2020. She has been arrested multiple times in the past for her human rights work.

Her husband, Reza Khandan, has been imprisoned in Iran since December 2024.

It is currently unclear what charges Sotoudeh may be facing.

Narges Mohammadi, the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize laureate and fellow Iranian human rights activist, was also granted bail on May 10th and transferred to the capital Tehran for treatment. Supporters say Mohammadi's life is in danger. (Compiler: Yang Zhaoyan) 1150513
