(Central News Agency, Reporter Wu Chia-hao, Taipei, 13th) Google today announced its new laptop device, Googlebook, at The Android Show event for Android developers and enthusiasts. Googlebook is centered on the artificial intelligence (AI) model Gemini and integrates with the ChromeOS web browsing experience to provide proactive and personalized assistance at any time.
Google is collaborating with suppliers such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo to build the first batch of Googlebook products, which are expected to be launched sequentially starting this autumn.
Alex Kuscher, Senior Product Director for Android Laptops and Tablets, stated that over 15 years ago, Google launched Chromebooks, which were laptops specifically designed for cloud-first applications. Now, as Android moves from an operating system to an intelligent system, Google sees an excellent opportunity to reimagine the laptop.
Kuscher said that the cursor is the most frequently used tool on laptops, but it hasn't changed much since the addition of the 'right-click' function. Now, through the 'Magic Pointer' on Googlebook, a new breakthrough can be brought about.
In the future, simply shaking the cursor will wake up Gemini, which will provide instant suggestions based on the screen content the user is pointing to. For example, hovering the cursor over a date in an email can directly schedule a meeting; or when simultaneously selecting a living room photo and a new sofa image from the internet, it will immediately synthesize the furnishing effect.
Google also brings the new 'Help me customize widgets' function to Googlebook. With simple commands, Gemini can help create exclusive widgets that can search for information online or connect to the user's Gmail, Calendar, and other Google applications, integrating relevant information into a personalized homepage.
For example, if a user is planning a family trip to Yilan, Gemini can centralize hotel information, restaurant reservations, and a countdown to the departure date on the desktop, making the computer desktop a more personal hub closer to the user's life.
Kuscher pointed out that the goal of Googlebook is to keep users focused whether they are using a computer or switching between a computer and a mobile phone. Users can directly open food delivery apps on their laptops, quickly complete an order, and then immediately return to their work; or access phone files from Googlebook's file browser through the new quick access function.
Google also launched Gemini Intelligence today, specifically designed for Android, bringing Gemini's computing power to Google's most advanced devices while ensuring users have control over data usage.
Users no longer need to frequently switch between different applications or copy and paste information; Gemini can directly understand the on-screen content and turn it into action. For example, if a user lists a long shopping list in a notebook, they can simply long-press the power button and ask Gemini to directly add all items on the list to a food delivery platform's shopping cart.
In addition, with Gemini Intelligence's new 'Rambler' feature, by simply speaking naturally, this function will capture important parts and organize them into a smooth text message. When this function is enabled, there will be clear visual cues, and voice files will only be used for real-time transcription and will not be stored or retained.
Gemini Intelligence features will be rolled out sequentially starting this summer, with initial support for the latest Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel mobile devices, and gradually extending to more Android devices including smartwatches, in-car systems, smart glasses, and laptops later this year.
