(Central News Agency reporter Hsieh Chun-lin, Taipei 13th) Independent legislator Kao Chin-Su-Mei and others are involved in three cases, including embezzling assistant fees. The Taipei District Prosecutors Office had previously ordered her released on NT$1 million bail, and today she was summoned for the third time to clarify the case. After questioning, Kao Chin-Su-Mei stated in an interview that difficulties are inevitable in life, but 'I will definitely face it bravely.'

Around 6 PM today, Kao Chin-Su-Mei finished her interrogation at the Investigation Bureau and arrived at the Taipei District Prosecutors Office to continue being questioned by the prosecutor. After approximately three hours of court proceedings, she was released and did not leave the prosecutor's office until around 9 PM.

After questioning, Kao Chin-Su-Mei said in an interview, 'Difficulties are inevitable in life, and it is the same for me. But I will definitely face it bravely. I want to thank my assistant team very much for continuing to serve the constituents even in the most difficult times. I also want to thank all my friends who have encouraged me on the road for a long time. I will continue to work hard, thank you everyone.'

Kao Chin-Su-Mei and others are suspected of embezzling assistant fees through strawman accounts, illegally importing COVID-19 (2019 novel coronavirus disease) test reagents, and embezzling association subsidies in three cases. On February 10, investigators searched 30 locations, including Kao Chin-Su-Mei's residence and congressional office, and questioned 17 people. Kao Chin-Su-Mei was transferred to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for re-examination in the early morning of February 11. Due to physical discomfort, the prosecutor ordered her released after restricting her from leaving the country and going to sea. On February 13, Kao Chin-Su-Mei was questioned again and released on NT$1 million bail.

In addition, Kao Chin-Su-Mei's assistant, Chang Chun-chieh, was deemed by the prosecution to have played a leading and critical role in all three cases, suspected of violating the Anti-Corruption Act for property obtained through official duties, the Medical Device Act, and the Criminal Law for fraud. As there was a risk of escape and collusion, the Taipei District Court approved the application for detention and solitary confinement. The remaining 11 defendants were released on bail ranging from NT$100,000 to NT$500,000, and the other 4 defendants were released. (Edited by Li Hsi-chang) 1150513
