TAIPEI (CNA) -- Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Chairman Lai Ching-te today announced the nomination of Legislator Shen Po-yang as the candidate for Taipei Mayor. He stated that Shen Po-yang not only possesses interdisciplinary expertise in law, criminology, and public policy but has also long been committed to deepening democracy, advocating human rights, and strengthening national security resilience, making him the 'only choice for Taipei Mayor.'

The DPP's election strategy committee today recommended nominating Shen Po-yang for Taipei Mayor, and the Central Executive Committee approved the nomination this afternoon. Lai Ching-te personally held a press conference to announce Shen Po-yang's nomination for Taipei Mayor.

Lai Ching-te stated that Shen Po-yang grew up in Taipei, studying from Jian Kuo High School to National Taiwan University's Department of Law, where he earned a master's degree in law. He then went to the University of Pennsylvania in the United States for a master's degree and later obtained a Ph.D. in Law and Criminology from the University of California, Irvine. After returning to Taiwan, he served as an associate professor at National Taipei University's Graduate Institute of Criminology, imparting his professional knowledge to students.

Lai Ching-te pointed out that Shen Po-yang deeply understands that Taiwan's democracy was hard-won, and therefore founded the Taiwan Democracy Lab to work on deepening democracy. Shen Po-yang also values human rights, having served as vice president of the Taiwan Association for Human Rights. Facing cognitive warfare and disinformation threats from China, Shen Po-yang actively promotes social defense resilience and established the Black Bear Academy, demonstrating his sense of mission for the nation and society. After entering the Legislative Yuan, he continued to serve as a member and convener of the Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee, focusing on national security and foreign affairs issues.

Regarding his ability in urban governance, Lai Ching-te stated that Shen Po-yang's doctoral research in sociology covers the interaction between people, society, and the environment. He not only possesses expertise in law and criminology but also deeply researches urban planning, environmental psychology, and public policy, making him a 'social engineer' with interdisciplinary governance capabilities.

He said that if Shen Po-yang is elected Taipei Mayor, he will govern the city from an 'ecosystem' perspective, emphasizing aspects such as education, culture, living environment, transportation, industrial development, international connections, and labor rights. He stressed that urban governance should not merely be a stack of single policies but a plan for the entire ecological chain.

Lai Ching-te also mentioned that Shen Po-yang is a warm and compassionate person. Influenced by Professor Li Mao-sheng, he decided to pursue criminology research after encountering disadvantaged youth, hoping to help vulnerable children. In addition, the story of Shen Po-yang and his wife adopting a daughter deeply moved Lai, who believes it demonstrates Shen Po-yang's care for humanity and warm personality.

Lai Ching-te stated that Shen Po-yang has long engaged in exchanges with the international community and possesses a broad international perspective, which is very important for capital city governance. Shen Po-yang proposed the 'four-dimensional urban theory,' emphasizing the need to deepen connections with international metropolises such as Tokyo, New York, London, and Paris.

Lai Ching-te stated that Shen Po-yang possesses the height of international vision, the breadth of interdisciplinary governance, and the warmth of caring for citizens, making him a candidate with 'three-dimensional governance' capabilities. He called on Taipei citizens to support Shen Po-yang to lead Taipei City towards internationalization and not fall behind Taiwan's progress. (Edited by Hsieh Chia-chen) 1150513
