(Central News Agency reporter Chiang Ming-an, Taipei, May 13) Chunghwa Telecom's innovative application series competition has kicked off, focusing on AI and 'Haiti Starry Sky.' Chunghwa Telecom senior executives stated that AI-related revenue has doubled, satellite orders exceed TWD 1 billion, and the company is actively deploying 6G, adding sensing networks, AI, NTN (Non-Terrestrial Networks/satellite), and promoting all-optical networks, with Pre-6G application trials expected to be launched by 2029, steadily moving towards 6G.

Chunghwa Telecom today held a press conference to announce the '2026 Chunghwa Telecom Digital Innovation Application Series Competition,' kicking off the 24th edition of the national leading digital innovation competition, which has accumulated over 2 million participants.

Chunghwa Telecom pointed out that this year's series competition covers three major events: 'Smart Innovation Application Competition,' '5G Accelerator Selection Event,' and 'FunPark Children's Book Star Creation Award,' with a total prize money exceeding TWD 2.26 million. This year, it focuses on innovative application areas such as Haiti Starry Sky, artificial intelligence, sports technology, information security, and innovative sustainability, and has set up 'AI Innovation Special Award' and 'Haiti Starry Sky Special Award.'

In addition, Chunghwa Telecom this year further proposed the 'Haiti Starry Sky' strategic concept, integrating submarine cables, terrestrial networks, and satellites to ensure stable communication operation in various scenarios, becoming a strong backing for the implementation of AI applications.

Chunghwa Telecom Chairman Kuo Shui-yi stated that the key in the AI era is 'application implementation' and 'value realization.' Through the series competition platform, Chunghwa Telecom opens up technical resources and verification fields, allowing innovation teams to move from concept to implementation, and further towards industrialization.

Chunghwa Telecom stated that the 5G Accelerator has cumulatively coached over 80 startups, selecting about 8 to 9 companies annually, and collaborating with company businesses with over 20 companies. Chunghwa Telecom assists startups in implementing solutions, understanding customer pain points, and expanding business scale, which has achieved significant revenue results, covering generative AI virtual humans, enterprise brains, satellites, communication networks, and other fields.

Chunghwa Telecom pointed out that in the past, it would select accelerator teams that collaborate with the company's business for investment. Currently, Chunghwa Telecom has diverse investment tools, and funds can be invested by fund partners at different rounds, such as Yichuang Fund and Taiwania Capital.

Chunghwa Telecom President Lin Jung-tzu stated that with manufacturing partners establishing overseas factories, actively promoting the implementation of AI solutions, coupled with the demonstration of computing power collaboration across multiple locations through all-optical network connections with NCHC, NTT, and Accton at the end of April, related AI applications have grown significantly in international and enterprise business groups, showing a high growth rate approaching double.

In addition, investments in submarine cable and satellite businesses have also begun to yield returns, with significant revenue growth. Kuo Shui-yi explained that the satellite revenue structure includes user terminals, bandwidth/circuit rental, value-added cybersecurity, and application services. Taking OneWeb as an example, about 770 points require user terminal installation, and subsequent low-orbit, medium-orbit, and high-orbit satellites are also being advanced. The overall satellite order size has exceeded TWD 1 billion and will be executed in installments over the next few years.

Kuo Shui-yi stated that a strategic cooperation with US satellite company Astranis will launch Taiwan's first dedicated satellite, with services expected to be provided in the second half of this year, but the schedule is uncertain due to rocket launch and testing arrangements.

Chunghwa Telecom is also actively deploying 6G, Kuo Shui-yi explained that in addition to inheriting 5G characteristics, it adds sensing networks, AI, NTN, and promotes all-optical networks and distributed computing power, Edge AI, gradually corresponding to 6G requirements.

Lin Jung-tzu stated that 2030 is considered the commercialization node for 6G, and the industry is moving aggressively, judging that the timeline may be slightly advanced. It will gradually connect with 5G-Advanced and Pre-6G. Chunghwa Telecom is expected to launch Pre-6G application trials around 2029, with a phased deployment overall, steadily moving towards 6G.
