(CNA, Reporter Tsai Chih-ming, Chiayi County, 13th) Renowned 203 cm tall basketball player Wu Dai-hao returned to his hometown today to cut the ribbon for the opening of the covered basketball court in Chiayi County's Xingang Park. He mentioned that he used to play ball here with friends since childhood and thanked the county government for building such a wonderful space for locals to exercise and play ball.

The Xingang Park covered court, built at a cost of NT$13.5 million, was officially opened today. The ribbon was cut by County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang, DPP Legislator Tsai Yi-yu, Xingang Township Mayor Yeh Meng-lung, Xingang native Wu Dai-hao, and various local representatives.

In his speech, Wu Dai-hao mentioned that he had been playing basketball in Xingang Park with his neighbors and friends since he was a child, and had also played with Yeh Meng-lung, often from morning till night. In the past, there wasn't such a comfortable space; having a place to play was good enough. Daily practice led him to become a national and professional player. He thanked the county government and township office for creating such a great space for the community to exercise and play ball.

Weng Chang-liang stated that Xingang has a large sporting population. In addition to subsidizing the construction of the covered court, the county government has prioritized setting up outdoor table tennis tables here. They are currently running a trial to see the usage rate. If the results are good, they will be widely installed as part of the "one park per township" initiative in Chiayi County.

The Xingang Township Office pointed out that the basketball courts in Xingang Park are always crowded on holidays but lacked facilities for shelter from wind and rain. Therefore, they applied for a subsidy of NT$4 million from the county government to convert one of the two existing basketball courts into a semi-indoor covered court. The exterior design was also approved by the Chiayi County Urban Design Review Committee, injecting a modern new look into Xingang Park. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150513
