Central News Agency reporter Chang Yi-lien, Kaohsiung, May 13th) A car driven by a man surnamed Liu collided with a motorcycle ridden by a woman surnamed Luo at an intersection in Kaohsiung's Qianzhen District this morning, causing Luo to sustain serious injuries and die after being rushed to the hospital. The case is being investigated for negligent homicide, and the cause of the accident is pending clarification.
Officers from the Qianzhen Precinct of the Kaohsiung City Police Department explained that at around 7:30 AM, they received a report of a traffic accident at the intersection of Kuo-chien Road and Kuo-hua 1st Street. Officers were dispatched to the scene and found that 45-year-old Liu and 55-year-old Luo had collided, resulting in Luo's multiple injuries. Despite emergency medical treatment by paramedics at the scene and transport to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.
According to preliminary police investigation, Liu, a forklift driver at the pier, was driving his car westbound on Kuo-chien Road to work this morning. At the intersection with Kuo-hua 1st Street, he collided with Luo, who was riding her motorcycle on the slow lane of Kuo-chien Road and proceeding to make a left turn from the waiting area. Liu tested negative for drunk driving. The cause of the accident is awaiting analysis and clarification by the traffic division.
Police stated that according to the signs and markings at the scene, when a motorcyclist on Kuo-chien Road encounters a red light and intends to make a left turn, they should stop behind the stop line and wait. After the green light for straight-ahead traffic on Kuo-chien Road, they should proceed to the two-stage left turn waiting area and wait again.
